I have been using 3 grams of MSM twice a day for pain. I purchase it from Kala Health online (kalahealth.com) as it is distilled (safe) versus MSM that is made by evaporation. It is considered best to take the capsules at breakfast and afternoon rather than at night because it can energize some people.
I kept waiting for grass pollen season to affect me this year but it did not and I couldn't figure it out until I was researching a problem for a friend, checked my book on MSM, and it said that it also helps pollen allergy.
The recommendation in the book for pain is for 3 grams twice a day. The recommendation for pollen is for 4 to 5 grams at two different intervals (i.e. if 4 grams then 2 grams twice a day).
They also make a gel with a pump that I use between times. I even carry a bottle that is almost empty (to reduce weight) with me at all times.
I would also recommend purchasing the most recent book.

Lee, South Elgin, IL. My sister started giving MSM to her rott mix several years ago. He was at about 130 lbs and 7 or 8 years old. It has helped tremendously with his aches and pains and definitely given him a better quality of life. There was an added benefit that we did not know about until recently though. He is now 13 and had to go in for some tests. He had a growth on his back which was not cancerous but bothered him somewhat. The vet explained that he wanted to remove it. He said that very rarely would he consider doing this surgery on a dog of this age but Baron's health was extremely good. His liver appeared to be that of a 7 year old dog. Well has helped Baron in other ways that we were completely unaware of. After seeing Baron then and after surgery, his healing time was extremely fast, this vet has decided to write some papers up for all of his other patients and I imagine that it could go alot further. Please help to get the word out just how good MSM can be for our pets. So many people have never heard of MSM at all. Thank you.
